Thousands of case studies have shown that our brain, the mind, is the most powerful tool we own. Is it powerful enough to influence the body to heal itself? That is the question that everyone is asking, "Can the mind really heal the body?" Oh boy, do I have news for you...!
Immersing myself with lectures, workshops and TEDx talks given by world renowned doctors and psychiatrists like Dr. Joe Dispenza, Dr. Daniel Amen, Dr. Lissa Rankin and cellular biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton just to name a few, has been a pretty mind blown rabbit hole I got stuck in. The good kind of stuck, just fascinating. I wonder why I wasn't this captivated as a young girl looking for her career choice in school? I guess I just wasn't ready to listen and now, I can't stop.
Placebo effect...we've all heard of it through passing. Some think it's a theory and some know for a fact that it works from thousands of studies. Placebo effect is the relationship between mind and body and the person's expectation of outcome. A placebo is an inactive substance or treatment; an inert tablet, inert injection, sham surgery or most commonly known as a "sugar-pill." Placebos are used in medical research to help doctors and scientists better understand the physiological and psychological effects of new medications. Studies have shown that patients administered with placebos will some times feel better and actually get better than patients receiving the medications.
So why is this? Expectation. Patients expecting a treatment or substance to work, will likely have a positive response and positive effects. There are many factors as to why this works on some and not on others. Belief is the main factor in it's efficacy. If you believe you are getting a treatment that's going to heal your illness, and that belief is strong enough, you will witness what you expect. The positive relationship between your doctor or healer plays a huge part too. If your health care provider is caring, nurturing and reassures you that you're doing the right thing, you listen. Allowing the process with a positive belief. Both in them and the treatment.
There's scientific evidence that your body can really heal itself from thought alone! Patients overcame incurable illnesses! Chronic illnesses, auto-immune diseases, stage 4 cancer, advanced lymphoma sarcoma! The pharmaceutical and medical industry isn't a fan of placebos and it's effects. I'll give you one guess why they're not fans. You guessed it, there's no money in it for them.
Our physiology changes with this positive belief of healing. It has been measured and we can actually see what's happening in the body. Your positive belief is initiated in the mind but happens in the body. Studies have shown colons less inflamed, warts disappear and ulcers go away. Your negative thoughts can hurt you and now we know your positive thoughts can heal you too. I guess what I'm trying to get across is this: Now that we know the mind can heal the body, actually reshape and rewire itself, I hope you see the importance of shifting that mindset. Positive mindset produces positive outcome.
